Notice:
Any
Violation(s) of This E-Mail Policy Will Result In Immediate
Suspension or Termination of Your Account.
E-Mail Abuse:
Spam is
the Internet equivalent to junk mail or unwelcome
telemarketers’ calls. Whether solicited or not, bulk
e-mailings cause tremendous strain on our Network resources.
In Internet culture (Netiquette), sending Spam is fiercely
frowned upon. Spam costs all ISPs including IDM, and those
additional costs ultimately translate into either increased
access costs for you, or in degraded Internet access
service. Neither of these is desirable for IDM. For these
reasons, IDM prohibits all forms of e-mail abuse, including,
but not limited to, the following:
Unsolicited E-mail:
Distribution of chain letters or “junk” e-mail or
unsolicited e-mail of a business or commercial nature
via IDM’s Internet e-mail servers.
Mail Bombing / Flaming /
Harassing E-mail:
Malicious impediments to another person’s use of their
electronic mail services or news media by sending them
e-mail numerous times in succession (e.g. Mail Bombing);
any mail that is sent to another that is annoying,
harassing, threatening, or otherwise malicious;
Fraudulent E-mail:
Forging any message header, in part or whole,
originating or passing through the IDM Network. Please
Remember that you may become the target of spam as a
result of Electronically Registering a Product, signing
up for product updates or otherwise opting into an
e-mail list.
Relaying emails:
IDM will only allow outgoing email for domains hosted on
its mail servers and will prohibit users from relaying
outgoing emails. IDM will configure its email systems to
prevent unauthorized email relaying. IDM will accept
email for their own customers, and MAY make explicit
private arrangements to relay email for specific other
systems. IDM will prohibit its customers from running
systems that will relay email for unauthorized people.
If such a system is being run, IDM will take steps to
remove it from the Internet until this behavior is
corrected.
IDM will
arrange to regularly check that its customers,
practically those on permanent connections, are not
running open email relays. Where this is inappropriate
for security reasons, or where the connection is
intermittent, IDM will ensure that the customers are
told how to make this check for themselves. IDM MAY
provide tools, probably on the web, to allow customers
to make their own checks.
E-mail Aliases:
An e-mail
alias is the name before the “@” in your email address (e.g.
yourname@idm.net.lb). The primary
e-mail alias is also used as your log-in name. The aliases
are issued to you by IDM, and are the sole property of IDM.
When you are assigned your e-mail alias(es), you are given
non-transferable, limited license(s) to use the alias(es)
for so long as you keep active the IDM access account(s)
associated with the subject alias(es). IDM will not issue an
e-mail alias that clearly infringes on another’s trade or
service mark. We reserve the right to revoke or rescind any
email alias issued to you, if after it is issued to you, we
become aware that it may be an infringement. If you
surrender the use of an e-mail alias back to IDM, we are not
obligated to hold it for you. Upon surrender, we will impose
a 180-day internal hold on the alias before it is
made available to IDM Network users.
SPAM Protection:
IDM is
committed to protecting your inbox from Spam. To do this, we
may use a variety of screening and filtering techniques.
SPAM emails will be deleted from the SPAM folders after 15
days from receipt. IDM will not send notification when a
spam email is blocked.
Occasionally,
legitimate e-mail sent from a server that is also generating
spam may be screened out. Failure in e-mail delivery may
result due to many reasons in any e-mail system, including
addressing errors and software problems, as well as
Spam-fighting techniques. IDM tries to deliver noncommercial
e-mail while preventing your mailbox and our system
resources from being overwhelmed by unsolicited commercial
e-mail. Delivery of e-mail can never be guaranteed and we
have no obligation to ensure that every piece of e-mail sent
to you will be delivered. If you believe you have not
received an e-mail that was sent to you, please ask the
sender to try again or to contact his or her mail system
administrator, who may be able to explain or solve the
problem.
E-mail Storage and Retention:
IDM
recommends that you setup your e-mail client (i.e. Outlook
express) to remove e-mail messages from IDM’s mail servers
when they are retrieved. However, if you elect to store your
read e-mail on IDM’s servers there is a maximum mailbox size
allowed depending on the selected contract with a 90 day
inactive mailbox limit. IDM will purge all messages over the
maximum mailbox size or over the 90 days inactive mailbox
limit.
Mailbox Expiry:
IDM will
permanently delete mailboxes which have been inactive for a
period of 6 months.
Email Limits:
IDM will limit email size to 5 Mbytes.
SMTP Authentication:
IDM will implement SMTP Authentication for all outgoing
email.
Identity and Logging:
IDM will
ensure that the identity of the machine passing the email is
correctly recorded. The HELO announcement WILL NOT be
treated as being valid and an IP address WILL be recorded.
IDM will keep
other logs for a reasonable period to ensure the ability of
translating a given dynamic IP address, in use at a given
time, to a particular customer who can be held accountable
for any abuse.
Non-IDM Mail Servers or Systems:
If
you own a Mail Server or system, you must have a fixed
IP Address on that System.
Reporting Abuse:
IDM will accept the receipt
of reports of any abuse on the
abuse@idm.net.lb
email
address.
