What is DSL ?
DSL stands for digital
subscriber Line. It uses advanced digital signal processing to
squeeze massive amounts of information through normal twisted-pair
telephone lines. DSL is the world’s most popular broadband
technology.
How is the service
delivered ?
[TOP]
The service is delivered
through a special DSL modem permanently connected to your regular
phone line. Once you subscribe to the DSL service IDM will do the
necessary with the Ministry of Telecom to have your line connected
to DSL. As we want to simplify the procedures to the service, IDM
is discussing the process with the Ministry of Telecom to make
paperwork to the customer easy to handle and we shall advise you
on the final process as soon as it is available to us.
Where do I get the
DSL modem ?
[TOP]
IDM will provide you
with the modem as part of the service. There will be several
modems to choose from. Entry level and more sophisticated modems
such as modems with wireless capability. All modems that we
propose will be tested, approved on the network and supported by
our 24 hours hotline.
Because the quality of the service depends on several
factors (such as how far your house is from the Ministry of
Telecom exchange and the telephone cable that reaches your home)
and to make sure you have a trouble free service, IDM will provide
you the modems that we can also support.
When will the service
be available ?
[TOP]
The service will be
commercially available once the relevant decrees will be finalized
and issued from the council of Ministers. This is expected by the
end of March 2006 and the roll out of the service will start
gradually all over Lebanon thereafter. Keep visiting our website
for updated information on the DSL service. If you are interested
to subscribe please follow this link.
How much will DSL
cost ?
[TOP]
As not all pricing
elements are yet available (we are still waiting for the monthly
price and the one time hook up fee, from the ministry of telecom
to connect the users using their existing phone lines), the cost
of the service for residential users will be around 50 U.S Dollars
for 512 kbps per month. This fee includes the cost of the Internet
service plus the flat monthly telephone charges for the DSL. There
will also be an initial set up fee of around 100 U.S Dollars to
connect your phone line to the DSL service.
The service to non residential users will be offered at a
different price taking into account heavier usage of the bandwidth
and higher availability factors.
Other plans and bundles will be announced at a later stage. Keep
following the news !
How do I pay for my
subscription ?
[TOP]
You can pay using your
credit card, bank domiciliation or one year advance if in cash
payment.
Can I upgrade my
current dial up account ?
[TOP]
IDM will offer the
possibility of upgrading your current account to DSL. We will
provide you with the information at a later stage.
Can I keep the same
email account ?
[TOP]
Yes you will be able to
keep your current email account even if you switch services.
I do not have a fixed line can I still get the DSL service ?
[TOP]
In order to have
the DSL service you must get a fixed line from Ogero.
Will VPN work ?
[TOP]
Yes. VPN will work as
well as all Internet applications. All ports will be open except the
ports that allow for viruses or norms.
Is there any session
limitation
?
[TOP]
No session limitation.
Is there any
traffic limitation on upload or download ?
[TOP]
No. There are no traffic limitations.
